Installation

The installation of your iPoint environment is very simple. To get the maximum of flexibility there are 3 setups available; server, scheduler and player.

Introduction

The iPoint server software is best installed on a typical server computer that is always powered on and is always available in the network.

iPoint scheduler setup software can be installed on the server or at any computer in your office network. With this software you will be able to connect to the iPoint server to maintain your playlists and playlist assignments.

The iPoint player software is typically installed on your dedicated player computer.

iPoint Server

Run the iPoint server setup with administrative rights on a typical server computer that is always powered on and always available in your network.

All server communication with this server is happening over a TCPIP connection to this server computer. By default this communication is taking place over TCPIP port 8000. During the installation, a setup wizard will be launched where you can confirm or change this communication port. At the end of this wizard it will setup the iPoint server software as a Windows service and start it automatically.

In case your computer is firewalled, you need to allow access to the TCPIP communication port number. Click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall. Then select the Exceptions tab and click Add Port. Enter 'iPoint server' as the name and set the port number to 8000 (or the new port number in case you changed the default communication port number). Click OK twice to confirm this operation.

Now your server is ready to access connections from your scheduler and players.

iPoint Scheduler

This user interfaces connect to the iPoint server and allows you to maintain player, playlist and assignment information for your iPoint environment.

Just run the setup and afterwards launch the application. Click Start > All Programs > PresentationPoint > iPoint Enterprise edition > Scheduler to launch the scheduler application.

The first time only you need to specify the iPoint server location. This location can be set by specifying the server computer's name or its IP address. Also verify its port number to connect to the server. Normally the port number has value 8000 unless you modified it in the server setup.

If you have the default Windows Firewall active, it will ask you to allow communication over this port number. Please confirm this communication.

iPoint Player
First make sure that the .Net Programmability Support option is checked for PowerPoint in the Microsoft Office installation. Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Locate the Microsoft Office program and click the Change button. Choose 'Add or Remove Features' from the menu options. Check the 'Choose advanced customization of applications' option and click Next. Open the Microsoft Office PowerPoint folder and make sure that the '.Net Programmability Support' is installed. If not, click the option and choose 'Run from My Computer' and hit the Update button.

Now run the Player setup software on a dedicated player machine. After the installation the iPoint player software is started automatically. You will see an iPoint notify icon in your Windows taskbar.

Here again it will ask you for the server address and the port number to communicate with the iPoint server. Default port number has value 8000. Check with your administrator if the server communicated is secured with an authentication string. For communication between all the different components you have to specify the port number. Default value is 8001. Click OK to close and confirm these settings and click Next.

The player software will now start the application and it will try to connect to the iPoint server. Now you are ready to use the iPoint scheduler software to create playlists and to assign playlists to a monitor. Once this is done, the player software will get notified of this new playlist assignment and it will start the playlist.
