Designing

A data shape is a standard Microsoft PowerPoint shape or object that can bound to DataPoint. The most used shapes are probably text boxes, images, graphs and tables. You can add a date or ticking clock to your slides. Or when you use data connections, you can specify which text is displayed within a text box. Or choose to display a linked OLE object such as a picture or video, based on the information that is deducted from the data connection.

Introduction

Without DataPoint you can already create graphs in Microsoft PowerPoint. But a linked DataPoint graph is getting its data from the data sources and thus has the capability to refresh a graph continuously like a dashboard.

Adding a graph to your slide

Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, 2002 and 2003

Click Insert > Chart in your PowerPoint menu to insert a Microsoft Graph object. PowerPoint will now insert a sample graph with sample data. Click outside the graph object in order to deactivate it and return control back to PowerPoint. Now select the graph again and click DataPoint > Graph properties to continue.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

To insert a Microsoft Graph object click Insert > Object and select the 'Microsoft Graph Chart' from the list and hit OK. PowerPoint will now insert a sample graph with sample data. Click outside the graph object in order to deactivate it and return control back to PowerPoint. Now select the graph again and click DataPoint > Graph properties to continue.

Available connections

Select an existing data connection from the list. These items are the data connections you have defined as data sources for this presentation.

Automatically adjust number of columns

By default you decide how many columns are used in the datasheet of a graph. In case you want let DataPoint control the number of columns in a graph, you can enable this checkbox. The number of columns in your graph is now depending on the number of columns or fields returned from your connection.

Clear

Click Clear to remove all DataPoint properties from the graph and return to a normal and static shape.
